I decided to skip the Fair Hill MASS race for the Windham National race. I really like fair hills course and was very upset i missed it. The weekend started off with the long 3 1/2 hour drive up to New York. I got there Saturday early enough to watch the pro elite race. I had a series of unfortunate events, I found a crack in my frame on the chain stay. I also saw that the bond that holds the aluminum brackets to the carbon frame is for disk brakes is broken. So i am up in New York less than 24 hours away from my start time with out a bike. Luckily the
Sobe Cannondale team was there and they gave me a Team
Sobe Scalpel to race. I did my warm up lap on it and fell in love. I was ripping on the descents and didn't even notice the weight on the climbs. Saturday, was beautiful with the sun shinning and the birds singing. Sunday on the other hand turned pretty nasty. I woke up the find some high speed winds and cloudy skies. My race was at 8:00 so it was kind of chilly. The gun went and I was in third of three. One kid sprinted up the first 100 meter climb and completely blew up. The second kid was pretty strong. I rode his wheel the first half of the first lap to find out how strong he was. He could descend very quickly but wasn't the best climber. I was beating going into the second lap where he made a move at the start finish line and tried to get a jump on me. He lasted for about 50 feet until I caught him, passed him, and dropped him. The course was pretty much up the mountain then back down it. I won my age group with a pretty commanding lead. It was great course to prepare for Mount Snow.
Tonight I was prepping the Cannondale Caffeine Brain gave me to ride in place of my taurine. I have never raced a 29'er so I think I am in for a treat. I have been training hard, and getting mentally ready for the fierce competition there will be at mount snow. I feel that I am ready and excited for the race!
