King Of Spring

Spring mountain has a history of always being muddy, i don't know but for some reason it always rains. It could be gorgeous and sunny the day before, but its going to rain the next day. As it did this year, and the last year it was held before it was canceled. This was my first experience running a race and i think it went quite smoothly. Kevin from B&B, my Dad, and I ran the race.
The preride on Saturday was awesome, people loved the course and everything was perfect. Now this course is a little sketchy when its absolutely dry, and the weather was calling for a chance of rain in the afternoon. We thought we'd be alright, boy were we wrong. I woke up Saturday morning to the pounding of rain upon the tin roof outside my window. I thought for sure the race was going to be canceled. I got a ride over to Spring with Ed Mac, who was helping out with the race! Apparently it had only been raining for about an hour and things weren't that bad.
We sent the beginners right on schedule, they finished up and everything was starting to look alright. Then the heavens opened up as the sport racers were trying to get ready. We delayed the sport race due to torrential downpours. The pop up tent corners were filling up with water every five minutes and needed to be drained. Lightning was crashing left and right and i thought we were going to start sending people home when the clouds began to thin and the rained slowed down.
We send the sports racers off with a slight drizzle. The favorites were Jeff Lorish, and Pete Hall, of Biksport, and Kyle Miller and Forrest Conrad of Cyclesports fast forward racing. It was going to be an epic battle to the finish. The leaders of the lap came through, and from afar we couldnt tell who it was. It was Forrest Conrad in the lead, with Jeff Lorish hot on his heels, Kyle Miller was tracking Jeff down trying to get into second, and Peter Hall was putting it all out there keeping up with the young guns!! In the end Forrest held onto the win bringing home the killer Felt 29ER frame. Jenny through down bringing home the sport junior women class!!
Next was the exper/pro race. Some big names were coming to this race. Mike Yozell, Topher Valenti, Martin Kell, Matt Miller, Zach Adams, and the Alesio brothers. They told me the night before they were going for the win. I dont really know how the race played out in that field. I do no that Andrew Alesio, Matt Miller, Martin Kell, Mike Yozell, and I all got flats. I got two actually, it sucked. Dylan backed up his bark with a bite and got the win. Withe Martin trying to chase him down the entire race. Zach Adams and Topher sprinted for three four. Zach taking third and Topher having to settle for fourth. I managed to win my race with two flats. Chris Dietrich from Fuji took second, and Jared Rodeheaver came in for a strong third.
All though it poured and lightninged id say that the race was sucess. Attendance was low, hopefully next year it will be higher, however all the people there i talked to said they had a blast. Spring will be back next year, hopefully better then ever!!! Thanks to all the sponsors!!Ohh yeaaaa, lance peed on me during the awards ceromony, right on my back................
