The Beacon of the Highland

This past weekend was the Mac Beacon race and Highland park race.  I checked the weather that Friday and things weren't looking the great so i was really excited for a chance to race in the rain.  I have never raced cross in the mud and slime that supposedly makes it all the more fun.  My race was at 9 and like usual when my sisters and mom come we show up at 8:25.  We were rushing the whole morning and still barley made it.  I got a half decent warm up in and went out kinda hard.  I was really pushing to separate myself from the Dag and Zach who were right behind me.  When we hit the amphitheater of  death i really gapped them.  I felt quick up the steps but each lap got a little slower.  I had big lead and won the U19 class pretty easily.  The next day was Highland Cross that was put on by Rutgers i think.  It was an incredible course that was perfect for me, it had lots of climbing with some technical sections.  I was soo surprised when the Juniors started out in front and we had a 30 second head start.  I was feeling great as we climbed up the first hill.  We stayed in a group up the first hill and down the second hill, when we hit that twisty hill climb thing my self and Zach pulled away.  I dropped him on the second part of that hill.  From then on i was out in front for a while, until a C class rider caught me.  I slowed down and took a break until he finally did catch me.  We rode together for a lap until, we hit the barriers the 2nd to last time, then  i made my move and dropped him.  I came into the finish happy because I won the U19 class and also beat the c riders. Then i drank my recovery drink and sat around for a while until the b-race went off.  I started in the very back, because i wasn't sure how well i would be feeling.  I started off slow, but by the end i was feeling great again as i worked my way up from the back and ended up 27th.  I felt like this was my best weekend of the year and am feeling better every race. Thanks to Brian K for all the great pictures he sent me
