A few firsts

Last weekend was the demo day at spring mountain.  Trek and Gary Fisher were there bringing out tons of bikes.  I rode an easy lap of the course  just to loosen my legs up for Fairhill.  I was a little nervous this being my first expert senior one race.  I was not expecting to feel as well as i did, and i wasn't expecting to finish as well as i did.  I arrived at the race just in time to see Jacob start and he was flying up the gravel road.  Then i saw Jenny start and she seemed ready for the season!!  I went on a solid warm up with Zach, Jake, and Jeff.  Jeff had just returned from the Bakers Dozen where he and Wes won!  I lined up with tons of people i didn't recognize.   It wasn't like last year where i knew who was who, and what they were or were not good at.  I started next to Matty B, an old Bike Sport team mate, and Cameron Dodge.  We started off ripping, absolutely flying up that first hill.  I was about 4th onto the bridge, and stayed to the front 1/2 on the downhill.  I was scared at how fast the other racers were going down that hill.  My goal was to go as fast as i could while still having enough to finish my 3d lap strong.  I didn't really know where i was in the race till i finished.  It was a great experience racing expert and i think it will help me get faster.  In Expert senior one i got 2nd, with a 29 min first lap, and my last two laps were 31 minutes each.  When i finished the race my back was in immense pain.  I could hardly stand up, i managed to get on the bike and go cool down which did loosen it up some.  I had been thinking about getting my bike fit for a while and that was the last straw.

I went down to cadence on Tuesday.  Mike did my fit and gave me a lot of good tips on riding posture.  It was a long and intricate process that involved many minor adjustments hopefully adding up to no more back pain. Today i went on a ride, and there was no more pain.  Cadence is now offering a special deal for MASS racers looking for a bike fit.  Stop on by, its totally worth it!! After the bike fit i met Harlan for a fun ride near the city.  We swerved cars and avoided people and had a good time.  Can't wait for Greenbriar!!
