This past weekend was Greenbriar. It was hot, way to hot for April. The journey started off with a nice 3 hour ride down to the course. We arrived at five on Saturday night to meet Zach, Jeff, Brian, Phil, and Jacob. We were all camping, and went on a nice ride to find pie filling. We ended up flying down this super long hill that was like 10 minutes long and eventually needed to find an alternate ride home. It worked out well because we found the race course and were able to preride the second half of the course. After a fun half a lap and some dinner i was ready for bed.
No one signed up for my class so i was expecting to just be dealing with the sun and blazing temperatures. However i was happily surprised to see someone at the line with me. He had a sleeveless jersey on and i was pretty worried, he was intimidating. As soon as the official said go, he started sprinting at the highest cadence I've ever seen someone start a race. He must have been been in the middle gear in the front and the highest in the back. It lasted till the first corner and then he slowly went backwards. I kept the pace up the hill and had a gap already. I knew the key to doing well would be staying hydrated and not getting over heated. Every lap i got a fresh cold bottle, thanks to Morgan, and that helped so much. I only allowed two of the 19-25's to pass me, Zach and someone else. I tried to stick with them but they were too fast. I rode all four laps with consistent times.
After the race we grilled some burgers with the team and just hung out, it was a awesome ending to a super fun weekend! Cant wait for Granogue this weekend, see you there!!
