Two weekend ago was the Willmington Grand Prix, it was a really unique race, not like anything I've ever done before. We drove into the city and bikers were everywhere. I pulled out of small side street to see the course lined with spectators. I was a little nervous a the line looking around and seeing very strong people surrounding me. Looking at everyone i assumed i could tell who looked good and who didn't. Ive done a lot of races by now and i thought i could tell a strong rider from a weak one. As soon as the gun went, some of the people in the front i was expecting to do well fell to the back, and some of the people that started back farther with my went almost to the front. When someone u take a glance at with long tights on, and it 70 degrees in sun, is passing you, u need to rethink the definition of what looks fast and what doesn't.
The race started and i couldn't clip into my peddles, i was pretty frustrated and used the anger to catch onto the lead group.......for now. With Jeff B in the front pushing things I knew they're would be little hope for me to hold on the entire race. I was in the back of the group, things were jerky, and it was hard to get into a smooth rhythm. I managed to stay on the back for a little while until finally getting dropped. Once dropped another person and me worked well together for almost the remainder of the race. When we were lapped by the lead group again we were able to jump on and ride with them for awhile. After getting dropped a second time with only 3 laps to go i was pretty bummed. I dropped the kid i was riding with on the last corner and road to the finish. I got 8th place.
I've been taking it easy these last couple weeks letting things cool down before picking things up again in preparation for Nationals. On Memorial day my dad and I went dirt biking. Dirt Biking is one of the few things he is still faster then me at. He fly's through the technicals sections just like he's on a mountain bike, except for the peddling part. This weekends Iron Hill, see you there!!
