This was a very busy weekend for me. I had 2 races and was getting confirmed. Saturday was the PA High School state championship. Unfortunately a small amount of people came to the race, which is sad because the idea Zach has is awesome. Getting Mountain Biking as a scholastic sport would be really cool. Kyle and I made the journey out to Carlisle, accompianed by Mrs. Miller. Kyle and I road the first lap with two younger kids who were really impressive. The course was super up and downy, with tons of logs. We raced the last lap where i managed to get a gap in the beginning and held it till the end.
The next day was Sunday, confirmation day. I was barley able to be confirmed due to the fact that i missed so many sundays do to races. Apparently next year there will be a limit of how many classes can be missed because of me. Everything went well and we left church at 12:00, giving us an hour and 15 minutes at the most to get down to Iron Hill. We hit a little traffic and i didn't think we were going to make it but then everything opened up and we cruised in with plenty of time to spare. After a less then satisfactory warm up, i was standing in the hot open field ready to start. The whistle blew and we were off. I was second going into the first section of single track, behind Dan Conrad with Chris Consorto right on my tail. We were ripping through those turns at crazy speeds. Dan was leading until that first technical climb where he dabbed and Chris and I rode away from him. I was leading for a while feeling pretty good until we started hitting the climbs. My legs didn't have the climbing strength i normally feel like i have. He gained what seemed like a pretty big gap and i thought he was gone. On the third lap i managed to claw my way back up to him where we found Zach on the trail. If it wasn't for Zach i wouldn't have won. He kept me motivated and provided that little bit of blocking to hold Chris back and allow me to recover. We rode till that rocky climb after bone shaker and i made my move. I cleaned the rocky right hand turn and was gone. Thanks Zach!
